An Extraction/Back Pressure Steam Turbo-Generator utilises steam flow through rows of turbine blades (impulse, reaction of a hybrid there of) to drive a generator, which in turn generates electrical energy.
At a suitable stage in the turbine (depending on the clients requirements), tapping points in the housing provide intermediate pressure steam, which is generally exported for process heating
The steam leaving the back end of the Turbine is condensed under vacuum in a condenser
These Turbo-Generators allows for a wide variety of process control conditions and scenarios, making them ideally suited to industries where steam process swings are frequent.
The condensing section of the Turbine can be designed to accommodate full steam flows in the event of a sudden drop in process steam requirements, for example during process plant trips.
