AFBC Boilers are similar to CFBC plants in that they are capable of burning a variety of low-grade solid fuels, including most types of coal and biomass, at high efficiencies and without the necessity for expensive fuel preparation.
Heat generation in a AFBC boiler includes the following processes:
- Pre-conditioned fuel is fed into a fluidised silica bed
- The thermal stability of the silica bed accommodates changes in fuel quality
- Large volumes of air are required to fluidise the silica bed
- Due to the relatively long dwell time of the fuel in the bed, there is high fuel burnout, ensuring the ash is of a high quality.
